This restaurant is a high value restaurant with pretty good and authentic food. The outside does not look like a restaurant, much less a Chinese restaurant. I could barely tell there was a business there. It really isn't a restaurant bc there are only a couple of tables there that are messy and not inviting. This is mom and pop operation and is almost completely takeout. But the food is fresh, good and cheap. You get a good amount of very good food for the very inexpensive price tag. I went to McDonald's earlier that day when I went to Basketball HOF and got less than half the food for more money than what I paid Discount. (Plus my family was still hungry after McDonald's). Don't go if you're looking for a high dollar experience; go there to pick up a good meal (with leftovers) to eat at home.
Restaurant was small and seemed to be family owned. The food itself was a great deal, it was extremely cheap compared to other chinese restaurants and it wasn't even bad. $5 for a full meal was a great deal for me and I'm sure to stop by again!
I come to Springfield every year for a conference and make sure that one of my meals is from Discount Chinese. LOVE IT! Great Chinese for an awesome price. HINT: Park at the BK and walk over.
I started eating here when I was going to STCC, and even though it's quite out of my way nowadays, I still make the drive because I enjoy the food that much. Their egg foo young is my favorite anywhere, I am in love with their shrimp toast. Their prices are more than fair for most things, and an awesome deal for a select few (such as shrimp toast). It's in a pretty sketchy neighborhood so I get nervous going at night, but other than this I have no complaints.
The location is not the absolutely best and the tables and atmosphere is a little less then perfect but the food is pretty good, you can see them cooking it, pretty cool and unique
